Jamaica Reach Final, Mirajs Guyana Bow Out

Jamaica Kingsmen secured their place in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) final after defeating Guyana Amazon Warriors by five wickets in the Qualifier.

In the high-voltage clash at Kensington Oval in Barbados, Guyana, after being sent in to bat, posted a massive total of 206 runs in their allotted 20 overs, powered by a brilliant unbeaten century from Shimron Hetmyer. The left-hander smashed 102 not out off just 45 balls.

Chasing a daunting target of 207, Jamaica’s batters came out attacking from the very beginning. A blistering 41 off 17 balls from opener Maaz Sadaqat provided Jamaica with a flying start, while Keacy Carty steadied the innings with a composed 56. Captain Rovman Powell then sealed the chase with a spectacular 40 off just 17 balls, taking the Kingsmen to victory with two balls to spare at 19.4 overs.

The match was far from memorable for Bangladesh all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz. Given an opportunity in Guyana Amazon Warriors’ playing XI, Miraz had been closely watched by Bangladeshi supporters for his all-round contribution, but he failed to live up to expectations. With Guyana’s top and middle order scoring at a rapid pace, Miraz did not get an opportunity to bat.

He later failed to make an impact with the ball either. Bowling his full quota of four overs, Miraz went wicketless and conceded 43 runs as Jamaica’s batters attacked the Guyana bowling attack.

Jamaica’s aggressive batting put immense pressure on Guyana’s key bowlers, including Miraz, and the Amazon Warriors ultimately failed to defend their 206-run total.

With the defeat, Miraz’s Guyana Amazon Warriors have been eliminated from the tournament, while Jamaica Kingsmen secured their place in the final, where they will face Antigua and Barbuda Falcons.
