Riding on a brilliant bowling performance and controlled batting display, New Zealand took a 2-1 lead in the T20I series against South Africa. They secured a comfortable eight-wicket victory in the third match in Auckland.

After winning the toss, New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner opted to field first—a decision that paid off quickly. Eden Park, usually known as a batting paradise, offered a different picture this time as the hosts restricted South Africa to just 136 for 9 in 20 overs.

Lockie Ferguson led the bowling attack with authority from the start. The express pacer conceded just 9 runs in his four overs while picking up a wicket. South Africa came under pressure early, losing 3 wickets for 41 runs in the powerplay. Ferguson dismissed Wiaan Mulder, Santner removed Connor Esterhuizen, and Ben Sears got Tony de Zorzi.

The visitors remained under pressure even after the powerplay. In the next three overs, they managed only 9 runs while losing two more wickets, with Jason Smith and Rubin Hermann departing cheaply.

Teenage pacer Nqobani Mokoena provided some late resistance, scoring 26 off 20 balls, including three sixes. He made an immediate impact by hitting a massive six off the very first ball he faced against Kyle Jamieson.

For New Zealand, Sears, Santner, and Jamieson picked up two wickets each.

Chasing 137, New Zealand started cautiously with Devon Conway and Tom Latham taking their time. However, they shifted gears in the fourth over, smashing 21 runs off Lutho Sipamla, with both batters hitting sixes.

The duo built a solid 96-run partnership before Conway was dismissed for 39 off 26 balls in the 11th over. Latham then anchored the chase with a composed 63, guiding his team to victory with 22 balls to spare.

With this win, New Zealand now lead the series 2-1. The fourth T20I will be played in Wellington on Sunday.
