Asif Akbar Speaks on Poster Controversy, Expresses His Soft Corner for Shakib
In the history of Bangladesh cricket, the name Shakib Al Hasan stands as a defining chapter. Unmatched in performance on the field, and often a focal point of discussion off it, Shakib has remained one of the most influential figures in the game. However, following the political transition in the country, Shakib has yet to return to the new Bangladesh, marking a pause in his long-standing relationship with national cricket.
Despite all the debates surrounding “politician Shakib” and “individual Shakib,” admiration for the cricketer himself remains unshaken among fans. The all-rounder, who has brought countless victories to the nation, continues to be loved by many including Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) director and popular singer Asif Akbar.
Although the BCB has not issued any official ban on posters related to Shakib Al Hasan, fans have repeatedly been denied entry to stadiums carrying his posters. Despite widespread media coverage of the issue, no one has provided a clear explanation.
Recently, after an incident where a police officer reportedly tore down a Shakib poster at a stadium gate, Asif Akbar addressed the matter publicly, sharing his personal thoughts.
At a press conference, Asif said, “I have known Shakib since his early days when he entered the Bangladesh team. I’ve known him for 17-18 years and value him as a cricketer. The rest is up to the disciplinary committee they’ll decide whether Shakib’s posters should be allowed in or not. There’s a soft corner for Shakib because he’s a brand for Bangladesh. The disciplinary committee will look into it.”
The BCB director’s remarks once again reflect that no matter how much controversy surrounds him Shakib Al Hasan remains a unique brand in Bangladesh cricket, a name inseparably tied to the nation’s pride and passion.
