Tamim Iqbal to Receive Farewell Honor at BPL Final
Tamim Iqbal to Receive Farewell Honor at BPL Final
There were discussions around Tamim Iqbal's return to international cricket with the Champions Trophy, but on January 10, he shocked the cricketing world by announcing his retirement from international cricket. In recognition of his immense contribution to Bangladeshi cricket, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has decided to honor him with a special farewell tribute.
Although Tamim Iqbal is now officially a former cricketer, his impact on the game in Bangladesh will always be remembered. The BCB has decided to present him with this farewell honor after the BPL final tomorrow.
In a statement, the BCB confirmed that they would present Tamim Iqbal with the farewell recognition following the conclusion of the BPL final.
The last time Tamim wore the national jersey was in September 2023, during a One-Day International (ODI) against New Zealand in Mirpur. Since then, amidst some dramatic developments, he was not included in the World Cup squad led by Shakib Al Hasan. Following that, various reasons kept him away from international cricket. He had already retired from T20 internationals in July 2022, and now, with this announcement, he has also stepped down from Test and ODI formats.
Tomorrow, Tamim Iqbal will take the field for the BPL final with Fortune Barishal against Chattogram Kings, as his team eyes a second consecutive title. The BCB will honor his career and contributions to the sport after the match.
