The heat of the Asia Cup is spreading fast, and ahead of Bangladesh’s opening game, captain Litton Das has made it clear- the team is not just chasing victories, but aiming to play planned and balanced cricket throughout the tournament.

At the pre-match press conference, Litton outlined the team’s strategic preparations, thoughts on player selection, and realistic goals.

Bangladesh’s top order has been consistent in recent times, but questions remain over the middle order. The captain, however, remains optimistic.

“In the recent past, our top order has done really well. The middle order hasn’t had much responsibility, but I believe they will bounce back,” said Litton, adding that the middle order could become the game-changing pillar on the big stage.

T20 cricket is often synonymous with six-hitting carnivals, but Litton’s philosophy is slightly different. He doesn’t want reckless aggression, rather structured aggression based on match situations.

“Hitting big sixes is definitely a plus point. But that alone won’t do. You have to play smart cricket, judging the opposition and boundary opportunities,” he explained.

The death overs often decide the match, and Bangladesh’s management has already prepared to handle that pressure. With confidence in his bowling unit, Litton sees the team as both disciplined and in form.

“We have 2-3 quality bowlers for the death overs. Mustafiz and Taskin are doing well. Shoriful and Shakib are ready too. Based on preparations so far, they’re in a good place,” Litton noted.

A notable addition to this year’s squad is Saif Hassan, who is more than just a batsman. He could be the key to maintaining balance with his dual skills.

“Saif has been picked because he plays aggressive cricket with the bat and can also bowl 1-2 overs. On spin-friendly tracks, he can be very effective and add balance to the team,” Litton said.

Regardless of conditions, the captain stressed that the sole target is victory. Though the team hasn’t received a final update on the pitch, Litton hopes for a good batting surface at Abu Dhabi.

“We haven’t seen the wicket yet, but from the last game it looked good. Apart from winning, there’s no other option,” he remarked ahead of the clash against Hong Kong.

While net run rate (NRR) could play a crucial role in the group stage, Litton prioritizes securing wins first.

“NRR can be at the back of the mind. But the first target is always to win matches. If we’re in a good position, we can adjust our plans,” said the Bangladesh skipper.

Finally, Litton hailed the unwavering support of Bangladesh fans worldwide, calling them the team’s greatest strength.

“Wherever Bangladesh plays, our supporters are always there. That’s our biggest strength. I want them to come, enjoy, and support us,” Liton added with gratitude.
