The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is proud to announce its support for FIDE Master Tahsin Tajwar Zia, son of the late Grandmaster Ziaur Rahman, as he embarks on a series of prestigious international chess tournaments. The BCB will provide financial assistance of BDT 15.8 lac to cover the associated costs of his participation in these events.
Tahsin, 19, is a rising star in the chess arena and is committed to building upon the legacy of his father. He will be participating in the following international chess tournaments in 2025 in a bid to boost his rating points (current FIDE rating 2323) and also to mount a challenge on securing an International Master (IM) title:
World Junior Under-20 Chess Championship in Petrovac, Montenegro
Asian Zonal Chess Championship 2025 in Sri Lanka
Grand Masters and International Masters Events in Hungary
In a statement, BCB President Faruque Ahmed said: "Tahsin is a very talented chess player and it is a pleasure to see him following in his legendary father's footsteps. We want to support his quest for further success and excellence as he pursues an IM title with an eye on becoming a GM in the future. The BCB is proud to be a part of Tahsin's journey.
"We feel that this is also a way of expressing our deepest gratitude to GM Ziaur Rahman for his contribution to the game of chess and to our nation's sports."
