The first Test match of the series between Bangladesh and Pakistan is set to begin on August 21 in Rawalpindi. One of Pakistan's key strengths is their spin bowling attack. Leg-spinner Abrar Ahmed has expressed his desire to be the lead spinner for Pakistan against Bangladesh.
Abrar made his Test debut in July 2023 against Sri Lanka in Colombo. Despite being part of Pakistan's T20 World Cup squad, he did not get a chance to play any matches. With the upcoming Test series against Bangladesh, Abrar sees this as a significant opportunity to showcase his skills.
In a press conference on Thursday, Abrar expressed his strong determination, saying, "I am trying to become the team's main spinner."
He added, "I try to bring something different in my bowling, and this will be evident in the upcoming matches."
Abrar's international career is still in its early stages. Looking ahead, the Champions Trophy will be held in Pakistan in February 2025. Therefore, performing well in the Bangladesh series will be crucial for Abrar to catch the selectors' attention and secure his place in the squad for the Champions Trophy.
Focusing on consistent performance, Abrar remarked, "Whether I play in the Champions Trophy or not depends on the team management. However, I have to work hard to achieve that goal."
