Tigresses Face Whitewash Threat After Consecutive Defeats

The Bangladesh women's cricket team lost the series to Ireland after their defeat in the second T20 following the first match loss. Ireland secured a commanding 47-run victory against Bangladesh in Sylhet. Batting first, Ireland posted a total of 135 runs, while the Tigresses were bowled out for a mere 87 runs in reply.

On Saturday, at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium, Ireland's captain Gaby Lewis won the toss and opted to bat first. Gaby provided a solid start, forming a 34-run partnership with Amy Hunter. Amy was dismissed for 23 runs off Jannatul Ferdous’ delivery.

Orla Prendergast, batting at number three, scored a quickfire 32 runs off 25 balls. Later, Laura Delany contributed a valuable 35 runs off 25 balls, enabling Ireland to set a challenging target. The visitors ended their innings at 134 for 5 in the allotted overs.

For Bangladesh, Nahida Akter took two wickets, while Jahanara Alam, Jannatul Ferdous, and Fahima Khatun each grabbed one wicket.

Chasing 135 runs, the Tigresses faced an early collapse as Arlene Kelly struck twice, reducing the hosts to 22 for 4. Sharmin Akter and Swarna Akter tried to stabilize the innings, forming a 48-run partnership off 42 balls.

However, Swarna departed after scoring 20 runs, and Sharmin followed soon after with 38 runs off 43 balls. The rest of the batting lineup crumbled like a house of cards, collapsing from 80 for 6 to 87 all out.

Orla Prendergast, who scored 32 runs and took three wickets, was named the Player of the Match. Laura Delany and Arlene Kelly picked up two wickets each for Ireland.
