England sweat over Stokes' injury
England's Test captain Ben Stokes has been injured ahead of the Test series against Sri Lanka. During a match in The Hundred, Stokes suffered a hamstring injury and was forced to leave the field. He is now scheduled to undergo a scan. With less than ten days remaining before the series against Sri Lanka begins, Stokes' injury is adding to England's concerns.
Stokes was playing for the Northern Superchargers in The Hundred. He injured himself while chasing a target against the Manchester Originals and had to retire hurt. Medical staff assisted him off the field. After the match, he was seen walking with the help of crutches.
While Stokes was batting, Ollie Robinson was on the field. Robinson attempted a scoop shot but accidentally played the ball to the leg side. During the attempt, Stokes experienced a pull in his muscle and fell to the ground, removing his gloves in frustration. Physiotherapists Harry Booker and James Pipe immediately attended to him. Stokes was then taken off the field on a stretcher and transported by ambulance. He returned to the dugout about an hour later.
Captain Harry Brook later confirmed that Stokes' injury could be serious. After the match, Brook said, "Unfortunately, the injury does not look good. We will see how it is after the scan tomorrow."
Additionally, a spokesperson for the Superchargers stated, "Ben Stokes' hamstring is still being evaluated. Further updates will be available tomorrow."
Stokes had already been dealing with a knee injury on his left leg, and now the addition of a hamstring injury has increased concerns for the England team. There are doubts about his availability for the first Test in Manchester starting on August 21.
