Bangladesh has been set a formidable target of 515 runs to win the Chennai Test. Despite a strong start, the Tigers faltered after tea, losing four quick wickets. To secure victory, they need to score an additional 357 runs over the remaining two days, with 6 wickets in hand. Captain Nazmul Hossain Shanto is unbeaten on 51, while Shakib Al Hasan will return to bat with 5 runs.

Due to overcast skies and poor light, the on-field umpires were forced to call off play 9.4 overs early. At the close of the third day, Bangladesh had lost 4 wickets for 158 runs in 37.2 overs. The loss of both openers, followed by experienced players Mominul Haque and Mushfiqur Rahim, put Bangladesh in a precarious position. However, Shanto’s fifty provided some relief at the end of the day.

The historic target of 515 runs is within reach if Bangladesh can overcome the challenges posed by the Indian bowlers. The visitors had a flying start, with Zakir Hasan and Sadman Islam putting together a 56-run partnership before tea—Bangladesh's first 50-run opening stand against India on their home ground.

After tea, India struck quickly, dismissing Zakir for 33 runs, caught by Jasprit Bumrah in the slips, which broke their 62-run opening partnership. Sadman also couldn't capitalize on the start, falling victim to Ravichandran Ashwin’s spin, with Shubman Gill taking an exceptional catch at short midwicket.

Following the dismissals of the openers, Bangladesh looked to stabilize with Shanto and Mominul Haque at the crease. Unfortunately, Mominul was bowled by Ashwin, and Mushfiqur also fell to the same bowler, both scoring just 13 runs.

Shakib joined Shanto at the crease, who reached his fourth Test fifty off 55 balls, hitting Ashwin for a six. However, the day's play was called off early due to insufficient light.

As the third day concludes, India holds the upper hand in the match, with Kohli and Rohit Sharma's team eyeing a victory in this first Test.
