Rain Washes Out Day 2 in Kanpur
The second day of the 2nd Test between Bangladesh and India at Green Park Stadium, Kanpur, was entirely washed out due to rain. After persistent showers on the first day, the rain was even heavier on the second day, preventing a single ball from being bowled.
Yesterday, only 26 overs were possible in the first session, followed by another 9 overs after lunch. Bangladesh had managed to score 107 runs for the loss of 3 wickets in 35 overs. After the openers departed, skipper Nazmul Hossain Shanto also returned to the pavilion.
Mominul Haque remained unbeaten on 40, while Mushfiqur Rahim was not out on 6. These two batters were set to resume play on the second day, but the weather had other plans.
Despite both teams arriving at the stadium from their hotel, they did not stay for long. Overnight rain in Kanpur continued into the morning, forcing the players to return to their hotels. The entire ground was covered, and though the ground staff tried to drain the water from the covers, the wicket remained untouched throughout the day.
At 2:33 PM Bangladesh time, the official announcement came that the second day's play had been abandoned. There is also a forecast of rain for tomorrow in Kanpur.
Brief Score (End of Day 2):
Bangladesh 107/3 (35 overs): Zakir 0, Shadman 24, Mominul 40*, Shanto 31, Mushfiq 6*; Akash Deep 10-4-34-2, Ashwin 9-0-22-1.
