Mehidy Hasan Miraz started the day with 87 runs to his name, eyeing a century. However, his hopes were dashed by Kagiso Rabada, who dismissed him for 97 runs, leading to Bangladesh's innings ending at 307. This set a target of just 106 runs for the Proteas. Miraz expressed his disappointment not just over missing out on his century but also for failing to extend the team's lead.
The outcome of the Mirpur Test was essentially determined in Bangladesh's first innings. After winning the toss and opting to bat, the team collapsed for just 106 runs. Ultimately, Bangladesh lost the match by seven wickets. Miraz, so close to a century, lamented that he couldn't execute his plan rather than merely missing the milestone.
In a press conference, Miraz shared his regrets: "We wanted to win the toss and bat first. Everything was in our favor, but unfortunately, we got all out for 106 runs. The runs we scored in the second innings would have been better utilized in the first."
Miraz also spoke about the team's batting performance, holding the top order accountable. He emphasized that if the top-order batsmen took responsibility against the new ball, it would ease the pressure on the middle order. "If we played good cricket, we wouldn't have so many questions. This is our failure," he stated.
