Cricketers Mourn and Pray for the Martyred Students and Citizens

Hundreds of students and citizens have lost their lives in the anti-discrimination student movement across the country. To honor the martyrs, the Bangladesh 'A' team cricketers observed a minute of silence today before returning to practice at Mirpur's field.

The resignation of Sheikh Hasina on the afternoon of August 5 triggered celebrations nationwide. Today, the Bangladesh 'A' team cricketers resumed their practice at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur.

Before starting the practice under the supervision of coach Mizanur Rahman, the cricketers paid their respects by observing a minute of silence in memory of the students and citizens who were martyred in the movement. They prayed for the souls of those who lost their lives due to the violence in July and August.

Among the cricketers present were Mushfiqur Rahim, Mominul Haque, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Khaled Ahmed, Mahmudul Hasan Joy, and Zakir Hasan, along with many other members of the Test team. As part of their preparation for the Test series, experienced players like Mushfiqur Rahim and Mominul Haque will play for the 'A' team.

This movement was not led by any political party. Conventional student organizations did not take to the streets in the same way. The movement was led by the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, which started on campuses and spread to larger streets. The nine-point movement culminated in a single demand: the resignation of Sheikh Hasina's government. In the following days, not just the streets of Dhaka, but the entire country became a free ground for the movement.
