Will Litton Become the Permanent Captain? Litton Shares His Thoughts

Despite his recent lack of runs, Litton Kumer Das has won hearts with his captaincy. His on-field decisions in the three-match T20I series against the West Indies have garnered widespread praise. With Najmul Hossain Shanto unwilling to take up the captaincy, there’s speculation that Litton might become the permanent T20I captain. But what does Litton himself think about leading the team? The wicketkeeper-batter has finally opened up about the matter.

After whitewashing the West Indies, Litton addressed the press conference, saying, "If the BCB gives me the responsibility, I’m ready to take it. There’s no question of hesitation. I’m enjoying this role. With my playing experience, I make many decisions, and the bowlers execute their skills well, which makes my job easier on the field."

Litton is also working on regaining his batting form, collaborating closely with assistant coach Salahuddin. "I’m trying to improve my batting. I play all three formats, so naturally, I’ve had a bit of a rough patch. I’m working on it with Salahuddin Sir, who has been incredibly helpful. He supports us a lot, and we feel comfortable around him. He knows players very well from their early days, and that’s been a big mental boost for all of us. I believe I’ll get out of this phase soon."

Reflecting on Bangladesh's performance in the ODI series, where they were whitewashed, Litton said the team performed well despite the results. "We played excellent cricket in the Tests. In the ODIs, unfortunately, we couldn’t win, but we didn’t play poorly. We kept our focus on maintaining consistency. We’ve been playing good cricket but haven’t been able to secure victories. Everyone believed in this, and I never asked the team to give more than they could. I just said they’re a good side and can beat any team on any day, especially on their home ground."

Litton also heaped praise on Jaker Ali and Shamim Hossain. "If you look at our team, we’re not very strong in T20s. But Jaker deserves special mention. From Tests to ODIs and T20s, he has been consistent across all formats. That’s a huge achievement for any batter and a big gain for the team. Shamim has performed in domestic and 'A' team matches. He had confidence in himself. Jaker’s confidence has been evident since the Tests. Finding a power hitter in the lower order is a significant gain for the team. There’s room for improvement, but this is a big positive for us."
