In the inaugural T20 match at Gwalior's Srimanth Madhavrao Scindia Cricket Stadium, Bangladesh was bowled out for a mere 127 runs in 19.5 overs. India capitalized on the modest target, surpassing it with ease in just 11.5 overs, winning the match by 7 wickets. This victory puts India 1-0 ahead in the three-match series.
The Indian batting lineup showcased a stark contrast to Bangladesh's struggles, particularly during the powerplay. India amassed 71 runs for the loss of 2 wickets in the first six overs, marking their highest-ever powerplay score against Bangladesh in T20 history. The previous best was 68 runs.
Bangladesh's troubles began early when they lost their two openers within the first three overs. India started their innings explosively, but a mix-up led to the unfortunate run-out of opener Abhishek Sharma, who scored 16 runs. Following that, captain Suryakumar Yadav entered the fray and quickly turned the game in India’s favor, scoring 29 runs off just 14 balls before being caught by Zaker Ali off a delivery from Mustafizur Rahman.
Sanju Samson also made a swift contribution, scoring 29 runs off 19 balls, but he fell to Mehedi Hasan Miraz’s bowling at a crucial moment, leaving India at 80 runs for 3 wickets.
However, Hardik Pandya's explosive cameo alongside debutant Nitish Kumar Reddy sealed the victory for India. The duo made quick work of the remaining runs, demonstrating India’s batting depth and power.
Bangladesh now faces a significant challenge as they prepare for the second match of the series in Delhi on October 9. With their batting lineup under scrutiny, they will need to regroup and strategize to put up a stronger performance against a formidable Indian side.
