In the first match of the T20 series against India, Bangladesh's batting woes resurfaced, resulting in a dismal performance that saw them bowled out for just 127 runs. The match, held at the newly inaugurated Srimanth Madhavrao Scindia Cricket Stadium in Gwalior, marked another disappointing chapter for the Bangladeshi team, especially following their recent Test series clean sweep by India.
Bangladesh lost two openers within the first three overs, putting them in immediate trouble. As the scoreboard showed a mere five runs, Litton Das was dismissed for a quick catch off Arshdeep Singh. Parvez Hossain Emon followed soon after, bowled out for just 8 runs, leaving Bangladesh reeling at 14 runs.
Despite the top-order collapse, Mehedi Hasan Miraz showcased resilience, managing to score 35 not out and helping the team surpass the 100-run mark. However, there was little support from the rest of the batting lineup. Veteran Mahmudullah Riyad fell victim to the debuting pacer Mayank Yadav, giving away his wicket with just one run to his name.
The batting lineup faltered significantly, as they struggled to build partnerships. Towhid Hridoy's dismissal for just 1 run, caught off a catch by Hardik Pandya, further exacerbated the situation. Nurturing a hope for stability, captain Najmul Hossain Shanto was dismissed for 25 runs, unable to anchor the innings as he fell to a return catch off Washington Sundar.
As the innings progressed, wickets tumbled at regular intervals. Rishad Hossain managed only 11 runs before being caught off Hardik's bowling, while Taskin Ahmed and Shariful Islam fell for ducks. Ultimately, Bangladesh was all out before the completion of their overs.
The match underscored the need for a stronger batting performance from Bangladesh as they prepare for the upcoming matches in the series. The Indian bowlers, led by Arshdeep Singh and Mayank Yadav, exploited the conditions expertly, showcasing the stark contrast in form between the two sides.
