Rohit Sharma Honored with Stadium Stand Named After Him at Wankhede
In recognition of his remarkable contributions to Indian cricket, the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has decided to name a stand at the iconic Wankhede Stadium after Rohit Sharma. The decision was made during the MCA’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) held on Tuesday, April 15.
Rohit Sharma, under whose captaincy India won both the T20 World Cup and the Champions Trophy, becomes the first Mumbai-based cricketer to achieve such a feat as national team captain. To commemorate this, Level 3 of the Divecha Pavilion at Wankhede will now be known as the Rohit Sharma Stand.
This honor places Rohit alongside some of Mumbai’s greatest cricketing legends. The Wankhede Stadium already features stands named after Sunil Gavaskar, Sachin Tendulkar, Vijay Merchant, and Dilip Vengsarkar. Former India captain Ajit Wadekar and ex-MCA president Sharad Pawar also have stands named in their honor.
The addition of Rohit Sharma’s name further cements his legacy in Indian cricket and Mumbai’s rich sporting history.
