Kaushal Silva Appointed as Hong Kong Head Coach Ahead of Asia Cup
Former Sri Lankan cricketer Kaushal Silva has been appointed as the head coach of the Hong Kong national team ahead of the upcoming Asia Cup. This will mark Silva’s first major assignment as the head coach of an international side.
The prestigious Asia Cup tournament is scheduled to be held from September 9 to 28. Hong Kong is placed in Group B alongside Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and Sri Lanka. Hong Kong will face Afghanistan in the tournament opener on September 9, while their second match will be against Bangladesh on September 11.
Silva, 39, represented Sri Lanka in 39 Test matches between 2011 and 2018. Following his playing career, he transitioned into coaching, working in Sri Lanka, England, and Australia since 2019. However, this will be his first time leading a national team on the international stage.
Known for his solid technique and resilience, Silva was a distinguished wicketkeeper-opener in first-class cricket. Over 209 matches, he amassed 13,932 runs, including 41 centuries — a testament to his experience and expertise.
With Silva at the helm, Hong Kong will look to make a strong impression in the Asia Cup against some of Asia’s top cricketing nations.
