Yasir Ali’s Career-Best Century Leads Dhanmondi Sports Club to Thrilling Victory in Dhaka Premier League
Yasir Ali Choudhury Rabb’s career-best century powered Dhanmondi Sports Club to a massive total in today’s Dhaka Premier League (DPL) match, while Legends of Rupganj were left lamenting near centuries from Saif Hassan and Afif Hossain. Saif Hassan fell just 5 runs short of a century, and Afif missed out by only 2 runs, as Dhanmondi managed to win by 24 runs.
Rabb played an outstanding knock of 143 runs off 121 balls, hitting 7 sixes and 7 fours. He remained unbeaten until the last ball of the innings. Dhanmondi, batting first at BKSP's Number 3 ground, had an early batting collapse, losing 4 wickets for just 107 runs in 25 overs.
In the middle of the collapse, Rabb, coming in at number 4, was initially struggling at 30 runs off 54 balls. However, he turned the game around with a spectacular 143-run innings, which became his best-ever List A performance. Thanks to his brilliance, Dhanmondi posted a challenging total of 332/7 in their allotted 50 overs. Following Rabb, the second-highest score came from Moin, who made 62 runs off 63 balls, including 5 fours and 2 sixes. In the final overs, Ziaur Rahman played a quick cameo, scoring 40 runs off 18 balls.
In reply, Legends of Rupganj faced early setbacks, losing 3 wickets for just 26 runs. Openers Soumya Sarkar (0), Mahmudul Hasan Joy (2), and Tanzid Hasan Tamim (9 off 17 balls) all returned to the dressing room quickly. However, Afif Hossain and Saif Hassan tried to rebuild the innings, putting together a partnership of 172 runs. Both were close to centuries; Saif fell just 5 runs short, while Afif’s brilliant 98 off 96 balls included 10 fours and 1 six before being bowled out.
Saif Hassan’s near-century was a major disappointment for him, while Afif’s remarkable knock left him yearning for a century.
Rupganj’s skipper, Akbar Ali, made 14 runs off 14 balls, while Sheikh Mehedi Hasan was dismissed for a golden duck. Rezaur Rahman Raja contributed an unbeaten 49 off 39 balls, and Tanvir Islam made 22 off 11 balls in an attempt to reduce the margin of defeat.
However, Legends of Rupganj ultimately fell short, finishing at 308/9 in reply to Dhanmondi’s 332. As a result, Dhanmondi Sports Club secured a thrilling 24-run victory, much to the delight of captain Nurul Hasan Sohan and the team.
