The Tigers tasted bitter defeat in Sylhet due to batting failures. From tomorrow, the Chittagong Test will begin, and ahead of that, the national team's head coach, Nick Pothas, attended an official press conference to address his disciples. When asked about the unsuccessful partnership of Zakir-Joy at the opening, Pothas was prompted with the question, "Do you think their partnership hasn't clicked yet? Who knows, they might surprise you in the upcoming matches..."
With regular head coach Chandika Hathurusingha busy with urgent matters in Australia, the coaching responsibility fell on Nick Pothas's shoulders. The final Test of the series will start tomorrow at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong. Before that, Nick Pothas came to the press conference today and spoke on behalf of the team's batsmen.
Litton Das has been struggling with the bat for a long time. Especially in the ongoing Sri Lanka series, it seems like Litton has forgotten how to score runs with the bat. Nevertheless, Nick Pothas spoke about Litton, saying, "Yes, we've had discussions. Litton is in good shape. The problem is the pressure mounting on him. I believe Litton should just be allowed to be himself. Then we will see his true potential."
"If we constantly hover around them in the media and social communication, it won't help. We forget that these boys are human beings too. If we see them as human beings, and provide them with the opportunity to be themselves, I'm sure they will repay us with their performance."
Not just Litton, the entire batting unit of Bangladesh failed to perform well in the first Test in Sylhet. They were all out for 188 and 182 runs in the two innings. Apart from Mominul Haque, no one managed to even score a half-century. Pothas attributed this lack of experience as the reason behind such batting performances.
"I think we are forgetting the main thing that our team is very young and inexperienced. Previously, there was an elite team. Now, we are trying to rebuild. In one aspect, we request everyone to have patience."
"They are very, very good young players, but they are young players playing against a team of experienced players. It will take time for them to learn. We do not expect anything different from our children. We hope to provide them with a new environment so that they become experts in it. That's why they go to school. This team is exceptional, now or in two years, please judge them kindly."
