The United States kept their hopes of reaching the Super Eight stage alive with back-to-back wins in Group A of the T20 World Cup. They concluded their group campaign with a 31-run victory over Namibia in Chennai on Sunday.

After winning the toss and opting to bat first, the U.S. posted 199 for 4 — their highest total of the tournament. Captain Monank Patel played a brisk knock of 52 off 30 balls. He was well supported by Sanjay Krishnamurthi, who strengthened the innings with an 87-run partnership for the fourth wicket. Krishnamurthi remained unbeaten on 68 from just 33 deliveries, smashing six sixes and four fours. It was his maiden half-century in T20 internationals.

Chasing 200, Namibia made a promising start. Louren Steenkamp’s 58 guided them to 97 for 1 in 10 overs. However, after Steenkamp was dismissed in the 13th over, they lost momentum and eventually finished on 168 for 6. With the ball, Shadley van Schalkwyk claimed 2 for 27, while Saurabh Netravalkar took 1 for 27 to maintain the pressure.

After losing their first two matches against India and Pakistan, the United States bounced back to finish the group stage with four points. They will now hope that their positive net run rate secures them a place in the Super Eight.
