Thrilling win in Nelson, New Zealand takes series lead
Nelson witnesses thrilling win, New Zealand takes the lead in the series. New Zealand has secured a thrilling win in the third T20 match. On Sunday, at Nelson, New Zealand defeated the West Indies by 9 runs, taking a 2-1 lead in the 5-match series.
Kyle Jamieson was once again the hero, defending just 12 runs in the final over. Chasing a target of 177, the West Indies collapsed at one stage, slipping to 88/8. However, a partnership between Romario Shepherd and Shamar Springer brought the match back to life, adding 78 runs in just 6.3 overs. Needing 12 runs off the final over, Jamieson's controlled bowling restricted them to just 2 runs in the first four balls. Shepherd (49) was then caught out, sealing the win for the hosts.
Leg-spinner Ish Sodhi played a crucial role, taking 3 wickets for 34 runs. This haul elevated him to third place in T20 international wickets with 156 scalps. Rashid Khan (182) and Tim Southee (164) are above him.
Earlier, New Zealand posted 177/9, thanks to Devon Conway's 56 off 34 balls and Daryl Mitchell's 41. Despite losing some momentum in the middle overs, the hosts managed to post a competitive total. Although Shepherd and Springer put up a late fight, Jamieson's cool head in the final over ensured New Zealand's victory.
Jacob Duffy took 3 wickets for New Zealand. The fourth match of the series will be held in Nelson on Monday.
