The Tigresses Missed Out on Direct Qualification for the World Cup
Despite winning the second ODI against the West Indies after losing the first, the Bangladesh women's cricket team had a golden opportunity to secure direct qualification for the World Cup with a win in the third and final match. However, the Tigresses failed to seize the chance.
In the final match, Bangladesh's women were bowled out for a mere 118 runs. The West Indies women chased down the target with 135 balls and 8 wickets to spare.
Bangladesh didn’t have the worst start despite losing their first wicket at 6 runs. Farzana Hoque Pinky and Sharmin Akhter Supta built a 62-run partnership. Farzana scored 22, while Supta made 37. However, from 94 for 3, Bangladesh lost their last seven wickets for just 24 runs.
Shorna Akter, Rabeya Khan, Nahida Akter, and Fariha Trisna failed to open their accounts. Captain Nigar Sultana Joty scored 11 runs, while Sobhana Mostary contributed 25.
For the West Indies, Karishma Ramharack was the star bowler, taking 4 wickets for just 12 runs. Zaida James claimed 2 wickets, while Cherry-Ann Fraser, Japhina Joseph, and Afy Fletcher took 1 wicket each.
While chasing, the West Indies offered an early chance when Hayley Matthews was dropped on 0 by Rabeya Khan. Matthews went on to score 22 before being dismissed. The other opener, Kyshona Joseph, contributed 39 runs.
At number three, Shemaine Campbelle, and at number four, Deandra Dottin, ensured there were no further hiccups. Campbelle remained unbeaten on 25 off 47 balls, while Dottin smashed an unbeaten 33 off 19 balls, hitting 4 fours and 2 sixes.
