The Reason for Litton Das’s Exclusion

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has announced the 15-member squad for the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, with a notable exclusion of opening batsman Litton Kumar Das. The main reason for his omission is his prolonged lack of form. The last time Litton scored a half-century in One Day International (ODI) cricket was 15 months ago, having played 13 innings since then.

During the last year, Litton’s batting in ODIs has been disappointing. In five innings, he managed only 6 runs, with three of those innings resulting in ducks. His last half-century in the 50-over format came in October 2023, when he scored 66 runs against India in the World Cup.

His poor form continued in the ongoing BPL, where although he scored 73 runs in the latest match, including 10 fours and a six, he had been dismissed for single-digit scores in the previous three innings.

While Litton Das has been excluded from the 15-member squad for the ICC Champions Trophy, Parvez Hossain Emon has been named as a backup wicketkeeper. Parvez has played seven international T20I matches but has yet to make his ODI debut. Emon, who is yet to be capped in ODIs, will be part of the squad for the tournament. The squad remains open to changes until February 12, without providing any specific reason for adjustments.

Additionally, Tamim Iqbal announced his retirement from international cricket two days ago. It was also confirmed that due to his faulty bowling action, Shakib Al Hasan will not be part of the preliminary squad for the Champions Trophy. Litton Das and Shariful Islam have also not made the squad.
