Tamim Iqbal Smiles in Victory as Fortune Barishal Wins BPL Title
The 11th season of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) came to a close with Tamim Iqbal and his team, Fortune Barishal, lifting the trophy. Despite a strong performance, Chittagong Kings had to settle for being the runners-up in this year’s BPL. Following the final match, the awards ceremony revealed the winners and the prize money associated with each category.
This year's BPL saw the dominance of local Bangladeshi players, with national cricketers claiming accolades for the most runs, highest wickets, and best fielding performances. In the final, Tamim Iqbal of Fortune Barishal, who scored a rapid fifty off 24 balls, was named Player of the Final and awarded 500,000 Taka.
Mehedi Hasan Miraz, known for his all-round performance and exceptional leadership for Khulna Tigers, won the Player of the Tournament award. Miraz accumulated 355 runs with the bat and took 13 wickets. As the best player of the tournament, he received 1 million Taka.
Mohammad Naim Sheikh made an impressive comeback with the bat, scoring 511 runs in 14 matches at an average of 42.58 for Khulna Tigers. He hit three fifties and one century, including a match-winning 111-run innings. Naim became the highest run-scorer of the tournament, earning 500,000 Taka for his achievement. Tanjid Tamim finished second with 485 runs.
The highest wicket-taker of the tournament was Taskin Ahmed, who took 25 wickets, setting a new record for most wickets in a BPL season. Despite this remarkable feat, his team, Durbar Rajshahi, was eliminated during the league phase, and Taskin was absent from the final. His teammate, Ebadot Hossain, accepted the award and prize money on his behalf.
Behind the stumps for Fortune Barishal, Mushfiqur Rahim excelled as the tournament's best fielder with 14 dismissals. He was awarded the Best Fielder prize along with 300,000 Taka.
Dhaka Capitals, despite having a lackluster tournament, saw their opener Tanzid Hasan Tamim shine. With four fifties and one century, Tanzid scored 485 runs and hit a record 36 sixes. For his performance, he was named Emerging Player of the Tournament and awarded 300,000 Taka.
