After the conclusion of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), it's now time for the Dhaka Premier Division League (DPL) to begin. On Saturday, the official photoshoot of the 12 team captains for the DPL was held. However, a change is in the air for the DPL as well, as this year's tournament is facing challenges with player payments. For many domestic cricketers, the DPL is their primary source of income, but this year, in some cases, player remuneration has been reduced by more than half.
Similar payment issues were seen in the BPL, and now the same problems have crept into the DPL before the tournament even begins. Expressing concern over the payment issues, Mohammedan's captain, Tamim Iqbal, spoke at the trophy unveiling ceremony and said, "I always believe the Premier League is the backbone of Bangladeshi cricket. While the quality of play and umpiring is important, what is more critical is ensuring that players' payments are guaranteed. This is what I will request on behalf of the players."
Tamim added, "We want good cricket and good umpiring, but those are the board's responsibility to oversee. Our main focus is to ensure that players' payments are fully paid."
Abahani's captain, Mosaddek Hossain, also raised concerns regarding payments, stating, "The payment issue is a big problem, and this is why we couldn't retain many players this year. I feel that the biggest issue in the Dhaka League is player remuneration. Players should receive their full payment."
As the tournament begins, the players' primary demand is to ensure they receive fair and full compensation for their efforts.
