Sylhet Titans face a tough challenge in the playoff stage of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), but the side is confident of meeting it with the strength of international experience. Ethan Brooks, who has been with the team since the start of the tournament, believes Sylhet have grown more mature over time, with the arrival of star players further reinforcing the squad.
International stars Moeen Ali, Sam Billings, and Chris Woakes have joined the Sylhet Titans squad. Sylhet will take the field against Rangpur Riders in the Eliminator on January 20, a match that could take them one step closer to the final if they manage a win.
Sharing his thoughts on the newly added compatriot international players, the Sylhet Titans’ English batter expressed satisfaction with their quality and experience. Brooks said,“The players who are coming in are world-class. Every one of them has represented England and played at the highest level. They have also gained a lot of experience playing franchise cricket.”
Brooks believes the presence of these stars will further strengthen the overall balance of the team. He also expressed hope of sharing the field with them during the playoffs. In this regard, Brooks said,“Their arrival will make the team’s experience and quality even stronger. Hopefully, I’ll get the opportunity to play alongside them and perform well out on the pitch.”
Brooks also spoke about his personal relationship with fellow English cricketer Chris Woakes. Recalling their long-standing acquaintance from county cricket, he said,“I’ve known Woakes since our county days. He’s a great person and one of the best in the game. We’ve talked a lot about life and cricket, but those conversations are very personal.”
Brooks is also pleased with his overall experience in the BPL. The English batter said playing in Bangladesh has become a special experience for him, largely due to the enthusiasm and hospitality of Sylhet Titans’ supporters.
Speaking at a press conference on Monday about his time in the BPL, Brooks said,“Yes, it’s been a great experience. There are so many people here. The media is covering me, and as a player, that’s a great thing. Any kind of exposure is fantastic. Your positive vibe is amazing. It helps players become more recognizable.”
Elaborating further on the tournament atmosphere and the fans, Brooks added,“Yes, I’m really enjoying my time here. There are so many good players, I’m learning a lot of new things and gaining new experiences. Everyone is very friendly and hospitable—they’re wonderful. The supporters are some of the best I’ve ever seen. My time here has been great so far.”
Ahead of the crucial playoff match, the blend of experienced international players and passionate fan support has left the Sylhet Titans camp full of confidence. Now, the real test will be how well that confidence translates into performance on the field.
