Sri Lanka Dominate Bangladesh with Aggressive Batting on Day 2
Bangladesh endured another frustrating session on Day 2 of the Colombo Test, as Sri Lanka's batters continued to dominate with a commanding, ODI-style approach. After being bowled out for 247 earlier in the morning, the Tigers managed to claim just one wicket by tea, while the hosts surged ahead to 190 for 1 in 50 overs.
Openers Lahiru Udara and Pathum Nissanka laid a strong foundation for Sri Lanka with an 88-run opening stand. Udara was the only batter dismissed in the session, falling for 40 after a fluent knock. The breakthrough came via left-arm spinner Taijul Islam, offering Bangladesh their only moment of celebration in an otherwise difficult phase.
However, the joy was short-lived, as Pathum Nissanka remained solid at the crease, nearing a well-earned century. He went to tea unbeaten on 93 from 155 balls. Former captain Dinesh Chandimal joined the run-fest, bringing up his fifty off 70 balls and remaining unbeaten on 54 from 81 deliveries. Chandimal had also scored a half-century in the Galle Test, continuing his rich vein of form.
Despite taking a wicket in the session, Bangladesh bowlers failed to contain the scoring rate or build pressure. With Sri Lanka just 57 runs behind and nine wickets in hand, they are well on their way to securing a first-innings lead.
