Due to an injury to Anrich Nortje, another fast bowler, Gerald Coetzee, was added to South Africa's squad for the Champions Trophy. However, Coetzee has now been ruled out of both the Champions Trophy and the Triangular Series. Cricket South Africa has confirmed this news.
On Wednesday, Coetzee felt pain in his groin after bowling 10 overs at the Center of Excellence in Pretoria. The medical team assessed his condition and found that it was not in good shape. Cricket South Africa (CSA) released a statement stating:
"After a detailed evaluation by Cricket South Africa's medical department, it has been concluded that these symptoms could pose a significant risk if he continues to bowl in the upcoming 50-over matches."
Corbin Bosch and Lutho Sipamla are now leading the race to replace Coetzee in the Triangular Series and Champions Trophy squad.
South Africa’s squad will travel to Lahore on Wednesday evening. They will play against New Zealand on February 10 and Pakistan on February 12 in the Triangular Series, with the final scheduled for February 14.
South Africa’s Squad for the Triangular Series:
Temba Bavuma (captain), Ethan Bosch, Matthew Britzke, Junior Dala, Wiaan Mulder, Mihalali Pungwana, Senuran Muthusamy, Gidon Peters, Mikael Prince, Jayson Smith, and Kyle Verreynne.
