Shubman Gill Unhappy with His Test Cricket Performance
Indian cricketer Shubman Gill has expressed dissatisfaction with his performance in Test cricket. He candidly admitted that he has not been able to meet the expectations that were set for him in the format. Since his Test debut in 2020, Gill has played 25 matches, scoring 1,492 runs at an average of 35.52, including four centuries. Despite these numbers, he remains unhappy with his performance.
Gill started his Test career as an opener but is now batting at number three. He is set to play in the Duleep Trophy before facing Bangladesh in an upcoming Test series at home. India is scheduled to play 10 Test matches over the next few months, and Gill is hopeful of performing well in these matches.
"I haven’t been able to meet the expectations in Test cricket. But we have 10 Test matches ahead, and I hope to fulfill those expectations by the end of them," Gill said.
Indian batters have traditionally excelled against spin, but recently, they have struggled against spin attacks. Gill mentioned that he has been working hard to improve his batting against spinners.
"I am putting in a lot of effort to do well against spinners. On turning pitches, you need to focus on defense first, and then think about scoring shots. We play so much T20 cricket on batting-friendly pitches that we often neglect our defense. I tried to overcome that during the England series," Gill added.
