The International Cricket Council (ICC) has named Indian opener Shubman Gill and Australian spinner Alana King as the ICC Players of the Month for February.
Shubman Gill earned the men's Player of the Month award for his remarkable batting performances. Gill played a crucial role in India's ODI series victory against England, followed by an impressive century against Bangladesh in Dubai. He scored 406 runs in February, reclaiming the top spot in the ICC Men's ODI Batting Rankings.
In February, Gill scored 87, 60, and an outstanding 112 in Ahmedabad, leading India to a series win over England. He continued his form in the Champions Trophy, remaining unbeaten on 101 against Bangladesh in the opening match. After receiving the award, Gill said, “This is a great achievement for me. Winning matches for the team is the biggest motivation.”
On the women's side, Alana King was named ICC Women's Player of the Month for February. She was instrumental in Australia’s Ashes series win, especially in the Melbourne Test against England, where she played a key role in Australia’s victory. In the first innings, she took 4 wickets for 45 runs and followed it up with 5 wickets for 53 runs in the second innings, breaking England's resistance.
Reflecting on her achievement, Alana King said, “Our team played really well this summer, and I’ll always remember that Test match in Melbourne. Contributing to the Ashes win was something I’m very proud of.”
Both players' outstanding performances in February earned them well-deserved recognition from the ICC.
