Shakib Shines with Bat and Ball, but Bangla Tigers Lose Again
Shakib Al Hasan’s Bangla Tigers suffered their second consecutive defeat in the Abu Dhabi T10 League. Despite the loss, Shakib was the standout performer for his team. Chasing a modest target of just 67 runs, the New York Strikers achieved victory with ease, losing only three wickets.
At the Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Bangla Tigers, led by Shakib, batted first after losing the toss. However, their innings faltered from the beginning as they kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Hazratullah Zazai was dismissed for 8 runs, leaving the team struggling at 9/1. Shortly after, Mohammad Shahzad departed without adding any runs to the scoreboard.
Iftikhar Ahmed managed only 3 runs, and Liam Livingstone returned for a mere 1, leaving the Tigers reeling at 33/4. Captain Shakib Al Hasan tried to stabilize the innings with in-form batter Dasun Shanaka, building an 18-run partnership. However, Shanaka’s dismissal for 22 runs left the team in further trouble.
Shakib continued to fight, batting with a strike rate of around 150. He scored 19 runs off 12 balls, including one six and one four, but his dismissal meant the Tigers couldn’t recover. The innings ended at a disappointing 66/8 in their allotted 10 overs.
In reply, the New York Strikers chased down the target with little trouble. Dewald Brevis and Donovan Ferreira’s impressive knocks sealed the victory in just six overs. Brevis scored 19 runs, while Ferreira remained unbeaten on 21 off just nine balls.
Shakib, however, showcased his brilliance with the ball. In the fourth over, he conceded just one run and claimed two wickets in a spectacular display. Yet, the team’s lackluster overall performance led to another defeat, leaving the Bangla Tigers at the bottom of the points table with no points to their name.
