Shakib Al Hasan Struggles in Los Angeles Waves’ Defeat Against New York Lions
Captain Shakib Al Hasan had a disappointing outing, both with bat and ball, leading to his team, Los Angeles Waves, suffering a loss in their opening match of the Six60 Strikes tournament organized by the National Cricket League (NCL) in the United States. The New York Lions, led by Suresh Raina, secured a thrilling 19-run victory over the Waves in Dallas.
Shakib's bowling was lackluster, as he conceded 18 runs in just one over and did not return to bowl after that. His economy rate was the highest among the bowlers, highlighting a challenging start for the captain.
The New York Lions posted a total of 126 runs, losing only 2 wickets in their 10 overs. Opener Upul Tharanga made a notable contribution with 40 runs off 23 balls, while Suresh Raina played a crucial innings, scoring 53 runs from just 28 balls, including 3 sixes and 6 fours. Ben Cutting remained unbeaten with 12 runs.
Chasing a target of 127 runs, Los Angeles Waves faltered, managing only 107 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in their allotted overs. The innings began poorly for the Waves as opener Stephen Eskinazi was dismissed on the very first ball. Shakib came to the crease to steady the ship but struggled to make an impact.
He was dismissed in the fourth over by Tabraiz Shamsi, scoring 13 runs off 16 balls with 3 boundaries. Although Shakib's early exit was a setback, hopes remained with Adam Rossington and Tim David at the crease. However, they too fell victim to the bowling attack before being able to lead the team to victory.
The match marked a tough start for Shakib and the Los Angeles Waves as they aim to bounce back in their upcoming fixtures.
