Shakib Al Hasan signs for Surrey

Bangladesh's star cricketer Shakib Al Hasan has joined Surrey for their County Championship Division One match against Somerset, set to take place in Taunton. Shakib is expected to play a key role in the squad and is included in the starting eleven. The opportunity to play for a prestigious county like Surrey has delighted Shakib, and the club's director is eager to witness the impact of this top all-rounder.

During the break between the Pakistan and India tours, Shakib will participate in a four-day County Championship match for Surrey. The game against Somerset will begin today at 4 PM Bangladesh time and will continue until September 12. Prior to the match, Shakib expressed his excitement about representing Surrey:

“Surrey is one of the most prestigious clubs in the world, and I am thrilled to have the opportunity to represent them. I am here to make an impact on the team and help them achieve their goals this season.”

Surrey's Director of Cricket, Alec Stewart, commented on Shakib's inclusion, saying, “When the opportunity to bring a player of Shakib’s caliber to the club arises, the decision is an easy one. Shakib brings a wealth of experience with both bat and ball, and we are looking forward to seeing what he can do for Surrey.”

Surrey will take on Somerset today at Taunton. The club is currently missing eight players who are busy with England's Test and T20 assignments.

“We were aware in advance that we might be without several players for this match due to their commitments with England. Especially, we will be missing our two spinning all-rounders,” said Stewart.

Currently, Surrey leads the standings with 193 points from 11 matches, having won 7 of them. After a drawn match against Nottinghamshire, Surrey is hoping to secure a victory with Shakib's contribution. Shakib will be joining a squad that includes England stars Rory Burns and Dom Sibley, along with Caribbean pacer Kemar Roach and Tom Curran, Ben Foakes. Rory Burns will captain the team.
