The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has announced that national team all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has been suspended from bowling in competitions governed by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB). As a result, Shakib will not be allowed to bowl in domestic cricket outside Bangladesh or in international cricket.
This suspension came into effect following an independent assessment of Shakib's bowling action at an International Cricket Council (ICC)-accredited testing center in the United Kingdom.
According to Article 11.3 of the ICC’s Illegal Bowling Regulations, if a national cricket board suspends a player from bowling in their domestic competitions, the suspension automatically applies to international cricket and domestic competitions under other national cricket boards.
This rule becomes effective immediately upon formal notification, requiring no additional process.
The BCB also stated that, under Article 11.4 of the ICC regulations, Shakib is eligible to undergo re-assessment at an ICC-accredited testing center. If the results prove his bowling action to be legal, Shakib will regain the right to bowl in international cricket and domestic competitions under national cricket boards.
Although Shakib is currently unable to bowl, he remains eligible to play as a batter in all forms of domestic and international cricket. The BCB mentioned that Shakib would soon participate in a re-assessment of his bowling action at an approved testing facility.
During this process, the BCB is maintaining regular communication with the ECB, the ICC, and the player. The board has also stated that it will not make any further comments on this matter at this time.
