Lahore Qalandars have fined captain Shaheen Shah Afridi to ensure team discipline and accountability. The franchise said he was penalised PKR 1 million (approximately USD 3,600) for allegedly violating security protocols at the team hotel.
Although he was also accused in the same incident, no action has been taken against Sikandar Raza. Speaking at a press conference, Raza took responsibility for the incident and attempted to absolve Afridi of blame.
The matter came to light after a letter from the Punjab police was circulated on social media. In the letter, addressed to Pakistan Super League (PSL) CEO Salman Naseer, it was alleged that Afridi and Raza took visitors to a player’s hotel room despite not having permission from the PCB’s security and anti-corruption officials. The letter claimed they stayed there for around three hours, while Raza stated the duration was approximately 40 minutes.
However, in a statement, Lahore Qalandars acknowledged the broader details of the incident but said it had been exaggerated in public discourse and unnecessarily amplified. The franchise maintained that the situation arose from a misunderstanding rather than any deliberate attempt to breach established procedures.
At the same time, the team reaffirmed its commitment to adhering to standard operating procedures (SOPs) to prevent similar incidents in the future.
