Sam Curran Returns to England Squad
Sam Curran’s long wait of nearly 10 months is finally set to end. The pace-bowling all-rounder has been recalled to the England squad for the upcoming T20I series against South Africa and Ireland.
The ECB announced that Ben Duckett has been rested for the South Africa series. Earlier, he and several others were given a break from the Ireland series, with England and Wales Cricket Board naming separate squads for the two series. On Friday, Curran’s inclusion in the squad was officially confirmed.
Curran last played for England in November 2024, in a T20I, and has not featured in any format since. So far, he has represented England in 24 Tests, 35 ODIs, and 58 T20Is. The all-rounder was a key figure in England’s 2022 T20 World Cup triumph, where he was named Player of the Final as well as Player of the Tournament.
The 27-year-old has earned his recall following outstanding domestic performances with both bat and ball. Across this summer’s T20 Blast and The Hundred, he amassed 603 runs at a strike rate of 154.21 and picked up 33 wickets in 24 matches.
The three-match T20I series against South Africa begins on Wednesday in Cardiff, while the three-match series against Ireland will kick off in Dublin on September 17.
Meanwhile, England have already lost the first two ODIs in the ongoing series against South Africa, with the third and final ODI scheduled for Sunday.
