Instead of preparing to compete on cricket’s biggest stage, Bangladesh are now left reflecting on what could have been. At a time when they were supposed to be analyzing potential Super Eight opponents in the T20 World Cup, the players are instead dealing with the disappointment of missing out.
Saif Hasan is no different. Like the rest of the squad, he acknowledged the pain while speaking to the media. Referring to his earlier social media status, he said,
“Look, everyone who was in the team is hurting. There is no denying that. But my status was about how, from there, playing in the Odommo Cup helped me get back into a good shape. That is something comforting. So that’s actually what I shared—my feelings about that.”
Explaining why he has not been watching the World Cup and how he is trying to stay mentally prepared for upcoming series, Saif said,
“To be honest, I haven’t watched a single World Cup match. I’m trying to motivate myself in a way that since one opportunity is gone, my focus now is on the upcoming series. If I get the chance, I will definitely try to express myself and bring myself into a good shape.”
Speaking about professionalism and the importance of moving on, he added,
“As a professional cricketer, the sooner you can adapt and move forward, the better it is for you. So our effort was to move on as quickly as possible. We are grateful that we got a break, and we were able to use it very well.”
A day earlier, Bangladesh national team’s senior assistant coach Mohammad Salahuddin had said that two cricketers had gone into a “coma” due to the pain of missing the World Cup. When asked about that remark, Saif responded,
“I don’t know whom sir (Mohammad Salahuddin) was referring to. But it wasn’t me—I didn’t go into a coma.”
