Return After 30 Months Turns Tough as Ripon Goes Wicketless and Expensive
After a 30-month-long wait, fast bowler Ripon Mondol has once again earned a place in the national team’s playing XI. However, this was not his debut match, but rather his return to the side after a long absence.
Ripon made his international debut during the 2023 Asian Games. Since those matches were granted official international status, that tournament marked his debut. However, he did not get another opportunity in the national team after that. Following a long wait, he has finally been recalled and included in the starting XI.
In today’s match, Ripon came on to bowl in the third over, conceding 10 runs. In the ninth over, captain Liton brought him back into the attack, where he gave away 8 runs. In his third over, he conceded 16 runs. In his final over of the innings, however, he showed some improvement, giving away just 6 runs. He did not manage to take any wickets.
In the first T20 match, Ripon bowled his full quota of 4 overs, conceding 39 runs without taking a wicket, with an economy rate of 9.8. Overall, his return did not turn out to be a memorable one.
