Ravichandran Ashwin Announces Sudden Retirement from International Cricket
Indian spin-bowling all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin has shocked the cricketing world by announcing his retirement from international cricket. Following the drawn third Test against Australia, Ashwin made the announcement during a press conference.
Ashwin revealed that he is stepping away from all formats of international cricket, effective immediately. As a result, Team India will be without him for the remaining two Tests against Australia. The Adelaide Test has now become Ashwin's final appearance in international cricket.
Notably, Ashwin was not included in the playing XI for the third Test in Brisbane, nor for the first Test in Perth. However, few anticipated that he would make such a decision mid-series.
Addressing the press conference alongside captain Rohit Sharma, Ashwin said, "Today marks my last day representing India in international cricket. I believe I still have something to offer to the game, but that will be at the club level. So, this is it. I will carry many fond memories with Rohit and everyone else."
Expressing gratitude to his teammates, Ashwin added, "We've had a lot of fun together. Throughout my career, I've been fortunate to play alongside Virat, Rohit, Rahane, and Pujara. They’ve made my job easier by standing around the bat and taking catches off my bowling."
Ashwin's illustrious international career spans 106 Tests, 116 ODIs, and 65 T20Is, during which he took 537, 156, and 72 wickets, respectively. In Tests, he is India’s second-highest wicket-taker. Additionally, he has made significant contributions with the bat, scoring 3,503 runs in Tests, including six centuries.
