Sylhet Strikers failed to avenge their previous defeat, losing again to Rangpur Riders in back-to-back matches. Despite putting up a good fight in front of their home crowd, the team lost by 8 wickets in their first home game of the season. Even though they managed to set a target of 205 runs, Alex Hales' sensational century guided Rangpur to victory.
The match saw Rangpur Riders continue their unbeaten streak with their fourth consecutive win. Alex Hales and Saif Hassan's extraordinary batting left Sylhet's home crowd disappointed. With this victory, Rangpur solidified their top spot on the points table, now with 4 wins in 4 matches. Hales, who scored a brilliant century off 54 balls, was the hero of the match.
After winning the toss, Rangpur's captain Nurul Hasan Sohan opted to bowl first, sending Sylhet Strikers to bat. The opening partnership between Ronny Talukdar and George Munsey was a strong start, with 47 runs scored in the first 5 overs. However, after Munsey was dismissed for 18, Ronny was joined by Zakir Hasan. The two of them put on a solid performance, both reaching their fifties.
Ronny Talukdar was dismissed for 54, and Paul Stirling came in to score 16 runs off 16 balls. Zakir Hasan was dismissed for 50, and Aaron Jones and Zaker Ali Onik contributed in the final overs, taking the total score to 205 for 4. Jones remained unbeaten on 38 from 19 balls, hitting 4 sixes and 1 four, while Onik hit 3 sixes in just 5 balls.
Rangpur, chasing a target of 206, lost the wicket of Azizul Hakim Tamim early on, who was dismissed for a duck. However, from there on, the innings was led by Alex Hales and Saif Hassan. Hales, in particular, took control of the chase, hitting his first fifty of this BPL and his fourth career fifty in the tournament. The two batsmen put together a 150-run partnership in just 85 balls, delighting the Rangpur fans with a barrage of boundaries.
Saif Hassan was eventually dismissed for 80, caught out after hitting 7 sixes and 3 fours in his innings. This broke the 186-run partnership between Hales and Hassan, and Rangpur continued to coast towards victory with Hales' destructive batting.
