Rangpur Riders start with a loss after an Unbelievable tie
Rangpur Riders began their campaign in the Global Super League T20 with a loss after a thrilling match ended in a tie. Despite coming close to victory, Rangpur Riders could not seal the win and the game ended in an unbelievable tie. In the Super Over, Hampshire triumphed, defeating Rangpur. Shan Masood, who scored a fifty, was awarded the Player of the Match.
Match Summary:
In the Super Over, Rangpur Riders batted first, with Khushdil Shah hitting just one six to score a total of 12 runs. To defend this small target, Rangpur placed their trust in Jack Chappell, who had earlier taken five wickets. However, Hampshire’s Liam Dawson and Shan Masood led their team to victory with one ball to spare.
Earlier, Hampshire set a target of 133 runs in their 20 overs, with Shan Masood scoring the highest for his team—56 runs. Only five of the team’s batters reached double figures, with opener Ali Orr contributing 28 runs.
Among the Bangladesh bowlers, only Rishad Hossain and Mohammad Saifuddin took wickets. Although Sheikh Mehedi did not take any wickets, he conceded 33 runs in his 4 overs. Jack Chappell, the English pacer for Rangpur, claimed a five-wicket haul. Rishad bowled a tight spell, conceding just 23 runs in 4 overs and picking up one wicket. Saifuddin gave away 22 runs, also taking a wicket.
Rangpur Riders’ Chase:
Chasing a modest target, Rangpur’s openers Soumya Sarkar and Steven Taylor added 46 runs in just 4.3 overs. However, when Taylor departed for 20 runs off 12 balls, the partnership was broken. In the following over, Soumya also got out after scoring 27 runs. Afif Hossain Dhruv was dismissed for a golden duck.
Captain Nurul Hasan Sohan contributed 24 runs from 23 balls. Khushdil Shah added 25 runs. However, Sheikh Mehedi’s poor performance continued as he failed with both ball and bat, managing only 3 runs from 9 balls in the 19th over before being dismissed. Towards the end, Mohammad Saifuddin and Rishad Hossain added 6 runs. In the final over, Rangpur needed 7 runs to win, and with Rishad running two on the last ball, the match ended in a tie.
