Rangpur edge past Dhaka in a tense final-over thriller
In a dramatic Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) contest, Rangpur Riders defeated Dhaka Capitals by five runs. Played at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium, Dhaka fell short of the target and left the field disappointed.
After winning the toss and opting to bat first, Rangpur Riders posted 155 for 5 in 20 overs. Veteran Mahmudullah led the charge with a 51 off 41 balls, providing Rangpur with a competitive total. At the death, Khushdil Shah added momentum with a blistering 38 off 21 balls. For Dhaka, Imad Wasim and Ziaur Rahman Sharifi delivered disciplined spells.
Chasing 156, Dhaka Capitals got off to a solid start. Opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz scored 31 off 22 balls, while Mohammad Mithun anchored the innings with a responsible 56 off 38 balls. However, the loss of key wickets at crucial moments swung the match away from Dhaka. Needing 47 runs from 33 balls in the final phase, Rangpur’s bowlers held their nerve to apply sustained pressure.
For Rangpur, Mustafizur Rahman was effective with the ball, conceding just 23 runs in his four overs and picking up a wicket. The other bowlers also maintained control at key stages to stem Dhaka’s scoring.
Dhaka finished on 150 for 5 in 20 overs, handing Rangpur Riders a thrilling five-run victory. Mahmudullah was named Player of the Match for his match-turning knock with the bat.
