Rain Threatens Bangladesh-Pakistan Match in Rawalpindi, Points Likely to be Shared
Heavy rain in Rawalpindi threatens to wash out the Bangladesh-Pakistan match, potentially leaving both teams with just 1 point each and sending Bangladesh home despite losing their first two matches. The match between the two sides was supposed to be the first-ever meeting in the ICC Champions Trophy, but if rain cancels the game, the points will be shared between the two teams.
After two consecutive losses, both Pakistan and Bangladesh have been eliminated from the Champions Trophy. With their exit from the semi-final race, the importance of today's match has diminished. However, now there is a growing concern that the match may not take place due to the ongoing rain, leaving the final game in doubt.
Yesterday, Pakistan had the chance to practice, but Bangladesh's practice session was canceled due to rain. Both teams have been eliminated from the tournament, making today's match more of a formality. Earlier in the tournament, the match between Australia and South Africa at this venue was also called off due to rain.
If the match is canceled due to rain, Bangladesh will avoid finishing at the bottom of Group A, securing a more respectable exit. Both teams have lost their first two matches, but due to a better net run rate, Bangladesh is currently placed above Pakistan in third position. If today's match is indeed washed out, the two teams will share the points, which would leave both teams with 1 point each.
Thanks to their better run rate, Bangladesh will remain in third place. On the other hand, Pakistan will have to finish the tournament at the bottom, in front of their home crowd.
