Phil Simmons to Continue as Bangladesh Head Coach Until 2027 World Cup
The chapter of Phil Simmons in Bangladesh cricket is not coming to an end anytime soon. He will remain the head coach of the Bangladesh team until the 2027 World Cup, which will be held in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia.
Despite Bangladesh's failure in the Champions Trophy, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is pleased with Simmons' work. His contract with the BCB was initially until the Champions Trophy, but the board has decided to extend his tenure. Simmons will now take charge of the team for the next two and a half years. The contract extension comes as a new beginning for Simmons after the conclusion of his previous term, with both parties finalizing the agreement.
The BCB will soon formally announce their decision regarding Simmons. After parting ways with Chandika Hathurusingha, the BCB had appointed the former West Indies cricketer for a six-month term as the national team's coach for the Champions Trophy. Although his contract with that term ended, Simmons has now been given the responsibility of being the head coach for a longer period.
According to a report from the national daily Kaler Kantho, the BCB has signed a new two-and-a-half-year contract with Phil Simmons. Under this agreement, Simmons will continue as head coach until the 2027 ODI World Cup. To take up this role, Simmons had to cancel several contracts with franchise cricket leagues.
However, he may be granted permission by the BCB to take up his role with Karachi Kings in the upcoming Pakistan Super League (PSL). After that, Simmons is expected to join the Bangladesh team for their Pakistan tour in May.
