Currently, Babar Azam is undoubtedly the biggest star of the Pakistan cricket team. The spotlight is always on him in the world of cricket, leading to extensive discussions about him. However, most of the criticism revolves around his strike rate.
Babar, who recently regained captaincy in white-ball cricket, acknowledges that people have many issues with his strike rate. He cannot understand people's problems, claiming to be a batter who adapts his batting according to the situation.
At 29 years old, Babar Azam holds numerous records in Twenty20 cricket. However, he frequently faces criticism for his low strike rate.
But Babar believes it's a process, and cricket is played based on what's happening on the field. According to him, if wickets fall early, it becomes difficult to play aggressive cricket.
In a podcast, Babar Azam said, "Cricket is becoming faster, and you have to adjust accordingly. You can't always satisfy everyone. I only focus on winning matches for my team. How to build an innings and maintain the strike rate is my concern."
He added, "The stories of strike rate are different. Building an innings and winning matches are two different things. When you win a match, both things fall into place. How you play the first six overs, how you play the next overs, it comes in sequence. I know my cricket, I know what I need to add, what changes I need to bring in my style. The crucial thing is the situation of the match. If that's right, I'll play accordingly."
He further added, "Sometimes you can't play aggressively because you have to build an innings. If wickets fall early, you can even play at a strike rate of 200 if you have wickets in hand."
"I don't understand why people have issues with my strike rate. If it's 150, they say it should be 170. If I play at a strike rate of 170, they say it should be 200. Every cricketer has their own style. I don't want to be compared to anyone else," he concluded.
