Bangladesh claimed a 27-run win in Sharjah, thanks to a record-breaking century by opener Parvez Hossain Emon, who smashed 100 runs off just 54 balls, including 9 sixes. His blazing knock powered Bangladesh to a formidable total of 191 runs in the first T20I of the series against the United Arab Emirates.
Winning the toss and electing to bowl, the UAE faced an early onslaught from Parvez, who stayed at the crease until the final over. Despite his heroics, the rest of the Bangladeshi batting lineup struggled to build on the momentum. Towhid Hridoy was the only other batter to cross double digits, scoring 20. As a result, the team fell just short of the 200-run mark.
Skipper Liton Das praised Emon after the match, saying, “Yes, definitely, it was a good score. The pitch was great for batting. The way Parvez batted was outstanding. But we need to finish better. We didn’t score enough in the last three overs.”
Bangladesh’s innings came to a close at 191 for 7, with just 6 runs added in the final over after Emon's dismissal with five balls remaining.
In response, the UAE were bowled out for 164 after completing their full 20 overs, handing Bangladesh a 1-0 lead in the two-match series. The second and final T20I will take place at the same venue on Monday.
Speaking about the bowling performance, Liton added, “I always knew the bowlers could come back at any time. I trust their strengths. But the way UAE batted in the middle overs, we also need to focus on our own bowling. We have to assess what kind of deliveries work best on this pitch.”
