Pakistan’s Dominant Victory in Rawalpindi Secures Test Series Win Against England
With a commanding 9-wicket win in Rawalpindi, Pakistan claimed a Test series victory over England for the first time in nine years. This victory also marked Pakistan's first home Test series win in over three and a half years, lifting spirits after their defeat in Multan and clinching the series 2-1.
Chasing a modest target of 37 runs in their second innings, Pakistan reached it in just 3.1 overs, losing only one wicket. Captain Shan Masood remained unbeaten, scoring a quick 23 off six balls.
In the first innings, England managed 267 runs, with half-centuries from Ben Duckett and Jamie Smith. Sajid Khan was sensational with the ball, taking six English wickets, while Nauman Ali claimed three.
In response, Pakistan took a 77-run lead, scoring 344, led by Saud Shakeel’s century. Sajid Khan and Nauman Ali showed their batting prowess too, building partnerships of 72 and 88 runs with Shakeel.
England began their second innings trailing by 77 runs but was quickly dismantled by Nauman Ali and Sajid Khan, who took all 10 English wickets. England was bowled out for just 112, with Joe Root top-scoring with 33 runs.
After a disappointing loss in Multan, Pakistan regained confidence and won back-to-back Tests. Nauman Ali and Sajid Khan, who didn’t play in the first Test, were instrumental in these victories, taking 39 of England’s 40 wickets in the last two matches. Sajid Khan was named the Player of the Series.
