There might be a change in Babar Azam’s batting position in the upcoming series against Bangladesh. According to a report by The Times of India, Babar Azam is likely to bat at number 4 in the two-match Test series against Bangladesh.
Traditionally, Babar Azam has batted as an opener or at one-down. He is accustomed to batting in the top three. However, he might be seen batting at number 4 this time. The management is considering this change for strategic reasons.
According to The Times of India:
- Abdullah Shafique is expected to open the batting, which is almost confirmed.
- Captain Shan Masood will bat at number 3.
- Babar Azam will be positioned at number 4, aiming to strengthen the middle order.
After the failures in the T20 World Cup, there were speculations about various changes in the Pakistan team. Changing Babar's batting position is part of this process of adjustment. This change is thought to further solidify the top and middle order.
Previously, during Pakistan’s tour of Sri Lanka in 2022, Babar was seen batting at number 3, and the same was observed against England in the same year. Therefore, Babar batting at number 4 is not entirely unusual.
It is also reported that this change in Babar’s batting position for the Test series against Bangladesh might be a long-term adjustment.
