Pakistan to Host ICC Tournament After 29 Years, Implements Extensive Security Measures for Champions Trophy
Pakistan is set to host a major ICC tournament for the first time in 29 years, with the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy marking a significant milestone. In light of this, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is taking extensive security measures to ensure a smooth and secure event. The PCB aims to showcase Pakistan's readiness to host global tournaments without any security concerns.
According to Pakistan’s The Express Tribune, over 12,000 police personnel have been deployed across three venues, with Lahore and Rawalpindi receiving the majority of the security forces. In Lahore, more than 8,000 police officers will be on duty, including 12 senior officers, 39 DSPs, 86 inspectors, 700 senior officers, 6,673 constables, and 129 female police officers.
In Rawalpindi, over 5,000 police officers will be assigned security duties, including 6 senior officers, 15 DSPs, 50 inspectors, 500 senior officers, 4,000 constables, and over 100 female police officers.
In addition to the personnel deployment, security teams will conduct searches, sweeps, and intelligence operations around the players' accommodation, travel routes, and stadiums. During the matches, the Punjab Safe City Authority will monitor the stadium, hotel, and routes used by players with modern surveillance cameras.
Traffic will be tightly controlled by traffic managers, with special parking arrangements in place. The Dolphin Squad, Police Response Unit, and Elite Force will regularly patrol the area, and snipers will be deployed on high-rise buildings surrounding the stadium to ensure additional safety.
With these extensive measures in place, Pakistan aims to not only host a successful tournament but also demonstrate its capability to safely organize international events at the highest level.
